SOS Protests in Second Life

More photographs of protests are available in the gallery.

After protests and discussions failed to cause substantive change Linden Lab's stated plans to increase the price and reduce the capabilities of services already sold, the Grid Representation Foundation is engaged in a substantial campaign to preserve the rights of all users of Second Life against this unfair and possibly illegal action taken against the owners and renters of "Open Space" simulators (also known as Void Sims) by Linden Lab. These actions have substantially prejudiced all users of the Second Life environment as they have lead to major distortions in the property market, and effectively destroyed the value of substantial investments in the Second Life environment.

Continued from above

Sim Owners who have been forced by the collapse in the value of their sims, the destruction of the rental market by Linden Lab spokespersons' damaging statements, and the threat of large fee increases and significant reductions in functionality to sell their Open Space sims have lost not only their "set-up fees" and the cost of owning the sim while it was built, along with the value of any improvements, but the enjoyment of their usifruct which payment of the set-up fees and tier entitled them.

Some might attempt to argue that the Linden Lab's Terms of Service (TOS) precludes consequential damages, but these losses were caused by unfair actions, or illegal actions, or both on the part of Linden Lab, and as you cannot contractually exclude the consequences of acting in bad faith, the TOS would in any case be null and void.

Linden Lab were repeatedly warned that their actions were unfair and might be illegal, combined with demonstrations and appeals, and despite this they have continued with their actions. This means that if their actions are found to be unfair and, or, illegal, that they would have been acting willfully, wantonly and recklessly, with no reasonable excuse.
